Renovation of a traditional one and a half storey cottage in Atlandhu, Wester Ross

This cottage, with stunning views to the South over the Summer Isles was in a very poor state of repair. The clients asked Harford-Cross Architects to look at substantially re-modelling and extending it to make a comfortable home for their family, with a view to making a permanent move to Wester Ross. The project was challenging due to the physical constraints of the site and the poor quality extension which marred the whole building. We came up with a plan that re-established the old cottage as the main focus of building, housing bedroom accommodation, and removing the old ugly extension. A new contrasting extension was proposed for the living accommodation, designed to contrast with the old white cottage.
